Summary, notice description and lot information
Norfolk County Council is initiating a public procurement process for a Norfolk Coroner Post Mortem CT Scanning Service, with a specific focus on providing digital autopsy services as a less invasive alternative to traditional post-mortem examinations. This service is classified under the industry categories of CT scanners, pathology services, and medical imaging services. Located in the UK regions of UKH15, UKH16, and UKH17, the procurement follows an open procedure as part of the tender stage, commencing with document availability from 24th November 2025.
Key deadlines include an enquiry period ending on 20th December 2025, with submissions closing on 20th January 2026, and an award period concluding by 16th February 2026. This procurement tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in health services, particularly those with expertise in medical imaging and CT technology. Companies experienced in digital autopsy processes could find this contract beneficial for expansion, especially if they provide services that align with the light-touch regime and have robust business continuity strategies.
The tender's value is estimated at £20,000,000, granting ample financial growth potential for successful bidders. The procurement is inclusive of SMEs and VCSEs, encouraging diverse business engagement and fostering competitive opportunities within the industry. Businesses interested in competing must ensure registration with the Council's e-procurement system and meet the outlined selection criteria, including past experience, financial suitability, and legal compliance.
The contract will span from April 2026 to March 2036, with a possibility of extension up to 2041, offering long-term engagement and stability for the selected provider.
Please Note - we have had to use a date for form filling purposes on the Find a Tender Service. However, we would expect the service to commence within 6 months of award of contract. The Contract may be extended by up to 60 months at the Council's discretion. This service is dependent on need so it is not easy to get an accurate value. For the purpose of this exercise - the budget for providing post mortem examination services to the Norfolk Coroner is PS1000000 per year fully inclusive of post mortem computed tomography examinations, pathologist fees and invasive post mortem examination fees (note: pathologist and hospital costs are separate contracts and not included in this tender)
