Summary, notice description and lot information
The NHS Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board has completed the procurement process for the urgent award of a contract titled "Provision of Urgent Award for Community Endoscopy Services". This contract addresses the need for community-based direct access endoscopy services in Mid and South Essex, from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. The procurement falls under the Health Care Services industry category and was carried out under the Provider Selection Regime Regulations 2023.
The key purpose of this urgent award is to mitigate risks to patient safety due to increased waiting times and to ensure continuity of service, given the incumbent contract expires on 31 March 2025. The contract has been valued at £833,671, subject to any applicable adjustments for the year 2025-26. This tender presents significant business growth opportunities, especially for companies specializing in community health services and diagnostic treatments.
Businesses well-suited to compete for such contracts are those that can provide high-quality endoscopy services, including gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy, for non-urgent patients. This tender is particularly beneficial for SMEs like Chartwell Private Hospital and Diagnostics Limited, which has been awarded the contract. By participating in similar tenders, businesses can enhance their market presence and contribute to the essential healthcare services in the region.
The value-driven contract offers prospects for stable revenue with planning values outlined, providing a clear financial expectation.
A community based direct access endoscopy service for the population of Mid and South Essex. The service will include gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy. The service will include providing uncomplicated diagnostic/treatment and surveillance endoscopy for non-urgent patients presenting with the following conditions: Dyspepsia, Reflux, Abdominal Pain, Diarrhoea, Change in bowel habit, Rectal bleeding and Haemorrhoids. There is a need for an urgent award of contracts for direct access endoscopy service and for a period of 12 months (01st April 2025- 31st March 2026) to ensure the MSEFT have sufficient time to procure the CDC capacity. Risk to patient safety through increased (long) waiting times unless an arrangement is in place for 1 April 2025 as all direct access would then be referred into MSEFT who have confirmed they cannot absorb the activity within current capacity. An urgent award is required for continuity of service and safety of patients requiring direct access diagnostics. The current contract with the incumbent (Chartwell Private Hospital and Diagnostics Limited) expires on 31st March 2025 and as a consequence there is a requirement to award a 12 month contract from 01st April 2025 to 31st March 2026. The value is a PS0 value contract - paid at local prices - planning value for 2024-25 is PS833,671 which is subject to any uplift applied to 2025-26.
