Summary, notice description and lot information
This tender pertains to the procurement of Tier 4 Bariatrics Services in Lancashire, South Cumbria, and Merseyside, orchestrated by the NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) as the buying organisation. The procurement process, which follows a limited method, involved awarding contracts for critical health services under the CPV classification 85100000. Involving stakeholders from regions in the North West of England, this process uniquely adopted a Pseudo Open Procedure approach and culminated in the final award stage by 1st August 2025.
The procurement contracts were signed on 28th July 2023, each spanning five years, with options to extend for two additional years, and are currently in the award stage. This indicates the completion of the tender process, whereby contracts have been awarded to Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals for emergency provisions and to Phoenix Public Health Ltd for elective care only. This procurement presents substantial opportunities for businesses, especially those in the health services sector like NHS Acute Providers or independent health care providers.
Companies well-suited for this tender are those capable of delivering niche health services, as specified, within the stipulated financial threshold, ensuring they can meet the critical and elective care requirements. The structure of this tender process, with separate lots and specific quality criteria, encourages competition and the entry of businesses with strategic capabilities in health services, allowing firms to contribute to market stability while fostering their growth trajectories by partnering within the NHS framework.
