Dental Epidemiology Programme
Overview
Summary, notice description and lot information
North Northamptonshire Council undertook the procurement process for a services tender titled "Dental Epidemiology Programme," which falls under the health services category (CPV: 85100000). The programme aims to gather oral health data for 5-year-old children in mainstream schools within the region, specifically targeting the local population's health needs in compliance with the Health and Social Care Act 2012. This open procurement process, categorised as below threshold, led to an award to Community Dental Services CIC.
The contract commenced on 22 October 2025, with an end date of 31 August 2026, carrying the option for a one-year extension. The buyer, North Northamptonshire Council, is headquartered in Corby, United Kingdom, and the contract has been signed and marked as active. The entire process was managed through a competitive tendering method.
This procurement opens avenues for businesses specialising in health services, particularly those adept at conducting public health surveys and gathering epidemiological data. The need for robust analytical methods and the ability to handle detailed data collection offers opportunities for companies equipped with innovative survey techniques and thorough data analysis. Small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as large-scale organisations, have the potential to benefit by providing competitive bids for similar future tenders.
These opportunities are particularly relevant for businesses within or willing to engage with the public sector, aiming to expand their portfolios in healthcare services.
North Northamptonshire Council (hereafter referred to as "The Council") invites quotations for the provision of the Dental Epidemiology Programme. Local authorities are responsible for gathering information on the health needs of their local populations. This imperative is described in the Health and Social Care Act 2012, underpinned by Statutory Instrument 2012 number 3094.
Each year, OHID publishes a National Protocol which identifies the target population group and provides a description of the standardised methods that fieldwork teams should use when undertaking the main survey. The population group for the 2025/26 survey will be 5-year-old children attending mainstream schools. This survey will use the same sampling frame as previous surveys to allow statistical comparison at local authority level.
The surveys are currently the only measures we have of oral health at local authority geography and the national programme produces robust information that is comparable across local authorities offering benchmarking and an overall national picture. The population group for the 2026/27 survey will be confirmed by the National Protocol as published for the new survey year.
