Summary, notice description and lot information
" This contract falls under the services category, specifically dental-practice services, with a focus on underserved areas in regions such as Dwyfor, Meirionnydd, and Anglesey, among others. The procurement method employed was an open procedure, ensuring a transparent selection process. On 23rd April 2025, a key contract was awarded to AMLWCH Dental Practice Ltd, although the process concluded in 2024 with a contract signing date of 21st August 2024.
The procurement aimed to commission approximately £1,250,000 worth of dental services annually across various priority locations in the UK, particularly within regions identified by postal code UKL12. This tender presents significant growth opportunities for dental service providers, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs) capable of delivering high-quality NHS services. Businesses that can establish or expand dental practices in underserved areas have a competitive edge, particularly those demonstrating the capability for additional patient access.
The emphasis on quality—accounting for 70% of the award criteria—alongside price (30%), indicates a strong opportunity for businesses focusing on service excellence. Companies with the capacity to provide both NHS and private services while maintaining a strong NHS commitment will find a favourable environment for growth through this procurement.
The Health Board is seeking to commission in the region of 1,250,000 of dental services on an annual basis. This could be opening a new practice in an underserved area, or additional activity in an existing practice. All qualifying bids will be considered, however, preference will be given to the award of those bids evaluated as satisfactory or better and demonstrating the provision of additional access to patients in the following priority areas: Dwyfor, Meirionnydd, Anglesey, Conwy, Betws y Coed, Flintshire, Abergele/Pensarn, Deeside, Llandudno, Rhyl. The Health Board may commission more or less service from each area depending on the quality of bids it receives. The Health Board may commission services from areas not listed in the above list if insufficient satisfactory bids are received for its priority areas. The Health Board reserves the right not to commission the full level of service outlined in the tender if it does not receive sufficient satisfactory bids within the priority areas. The contracted provider is free to offer private services but it is expected that NHS commitment will be maintained at the contracted level and that NHS provision remains the significant proportion of the contractor's total workload. Please see Information for Bidders document for further information.
