Summary, notice description and lot information
The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is in the process of awarding a contract under the Provider Selection Regime for Bone Donation services, specifically in the regions of Leicestershire and Rutland. This contract, identified as C&c Bone Donation, falls under the services category with a CPV classification of Hospital and related services. The procurement stage is currently at the award stage, with the contract intended to be awarded to Spire Healthcare Limited.
Key decision-makers include Dan Bromley, Kat Rennalls, Jade Mall, Nicola Coleman, and Hayley Turner. The procurement method utilised is a limited, direct award route, aligning with the Health Care Services Regulations 2023, with a standstill period for provider representations ending on 31st July 2025. This procurement presents significant opportunities for businesses within the healthcare services industry, particularly those with expertise in managing and facilitating tissue donation processes.
Companies specialising in medical donations, microbiological, and virology testing could find this opportunity advantageous for growth, as the contract requires strict compliance and liaison with Leicester Bone and Tissue Bank. Large organisations like Spire Healthcare, with established infrastructures and capabilities in handling substantial service contracts, are well-positioned to benefit from the potential award, ensuring a high standard of service delivery in alignment with regional healthcare objectives.
Provision of Bone Donation. The provider is required to donate surplus tissue from elective orthopedic surgery (femoral heads) for the purpose of transplantation. The provider will provide Leicester Bone and Tissue Bank with samples for microbiological testing from each donor and blood samples for virology testing. At least two 'Persons Designate' (PDs) must be appointed by the provider (usually Theatre Managers, operating department assistants or change nurses) and they are required to liaise with LBTB while managing the service. PDs must undertake training for their role (provided by LBTB). PDs are responsible for alarm test audits, freezer logs, disposal of non conforming tissue, reporting and general running of the satellite service.
