Summary, notice description and lot information
The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is proceeding with the Provider Selection Regime for "C&C Bone Donation Services," under the procurement process adhering to the Health Care Services, Provider Selection Regime (PSR) Regulations 2023. Classified under the "Hospital and related services" industry, this tender is specialised for bone donation services to be executed by the Leicester Bone and Tissue Bank. The contracting process is currently in the Award stage with the intention to award being formally noted.
This process involves a limited procurement method without a prior call for competition, and the standstill period allows for representations by 21st August 2025. Key contact personnel include Jade Mall, Nicole Coleman, and Dan Bromley, with Dan serving as the central contact point for representations. This tender represents an excellent opportunity for businesses specialising in healthcare services, particularly those with capabilities in tissue donation and management.
Given the criteria focused primarily on service delivery and compliance with healthcare regulations, businesses with expertise in handling medical procedures, logistics for donor sample testing, and operational management in a 24/7 service environment are well-suited to compete. Large operators such as Nuffield Health have already been identified as key suppliers, indicating the level of expertise required. Small to medium enterprises with relevant specialisations and experience in similar healthcare procurement processes may find this an attractive avenue for growth by partnering or subcontracting to fulfil service delivery needs associated with this award under the PSR.
"The provider is required to donate surplus tissue from elective orthopaedic surgery (femoral heads) for the purpose of transplantation. The provider will provide Leicester Bone and Tissue Bank with samples for microbiological testing from each donor and blood samples for virology testing. At least two 'Persons Designate' (PDs) must be appointed by the provider (usually Theatre Managers, operating department assistants or change nurses) and they are required to liaise with LBTB whil emanaging the service. PDs must undertake training for their role (provided by LBTB). PDs are responsible for alarm test audits, freezer logs, disposal of non conforming tissue, reporting and general running of the satellite service.

A 24 hour, 7 day service is required."
