The NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland ICB has concluded a procurement process for a Glaucoma Service under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023. This process, categorised under the health services industry, involved a direct award without a prior call for competition. Set in the UKF region, the award was confirmed on 1st September 2025.
The service will be provided until 31st March 2026, with no options to extend. The procurement stage is recorded as complete, reflecting a successful award to multiple suppliers. This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in ophthalmic care and health services to collaborate with public healthcare bodies.
With the focus on delivering a consultant-led glaucoma diagnosis and management service, companies with capability in chronic eye conditions treatment could significantly benefit. Large-scale suppliers like Community Health and Eyecare Ltd, New Medical Systems Limited (Newmedica), and Optegra UK Ltd are well-suited to this contract, reflecting the potential for growth in managing activity-based service requirements. The procurement method facilitates targeted selection, potentially leading to niche market expansion for qualified service providers.
A Glaucoma Service provides a consultant led diagnosis and management of glaucoma in people aged 18 and over in accordance with NICE guidance (NG81). This includes assessment and testing for chronic open-angle glaucoma, glaucoma suspicion and ocular hypertension and effective diagnosis, treatment and reassessment to stop these conditions progressing. The provider/s will deliver the Glaucoma care pathway as described in NICE 2022 (NG81) guidance. This notice is a confirmation of award under the Direct Award B PSR process. This is an existing service for a new provider. This is an activity-based service and payments will be made dependent on activity. The service will be provided until the 31st of March 2026.
