The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership-Procurement Services, hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust, has completed a procurement process titled "Insourcing of Theatre Staff". This effort falls under the sector of miscellaneous health services, aimed specifically at increasing surgical capacity in orthopaedic procedures at Prince Charles Hospital. The procurement process, completed by 8th July 2025, was part of a Welsh Government initiative to address a backlog requiring a direct award, without prior competition calls, to ID Medical Group Limited.
The contract focuses on the insourcing of medical personnel to handle a targeted 104-week waiting list, with the total contract value being £1,488,000, signed on 16th May 2025. This tender offers significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in healthcare staffing solutions, particularly those capable of responding rapidly to direct award contracts. It is well-suited for large businesses with the necessary resources and expertise to supply medical personnel without prior competition.
Companies offering efficient and high-quality healthcare services can leverage this contract as a strategic entry or expansion point within the UK healthcare market, especially in collaborations requiring swift deployment in critical healthcare sectors such as orthopaedics.

This was within an initial six week timeframe for completion. The key objectives of the service are: -To ensure the provision of safe and effective Orthopaedic Surgery provision to NHS patients -Reduce the 104 week waiting list backlog The rapid turnaround solution for extra Surgical capacity at Prince Charles Hospital would not be possible without the Insourced solution.
