Summary, notice description and lot information
The NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board has contracted orthodontic services in Hertfordshire from April 2027 to March 2037. The procurement, categorised under health services, followed a Provider Selection Regime (PSR) and was awarded directly to Herts Orthodontics. This choice was made without a formal call for competition.
The procurement process began in June 2025, with key approvals occurring in November 2025, and the contract formally awarded on 17 December 2025. With a focus on maintaining quality services, this award ensures continuity of care, as the existing provider has been fulfilling contract requirements effectively, meeting all key performance indicators, without any patient concerns. This contract represents significant opportunities for Herts Orthodontics, establishing a long-term, stable business engagement.
8 million spread over 10 years, assures consistent revenue flows. As the service remains within NHS standards and follows a direct referral model via General Dental Practitioners, it offers potential growth for existing orthodontic specialists. The procurement benefits providers who can adhere to stringent quality standards and meet referral-based NHS care criteria.
Specialist orthodontic practices in Hertfordshire, especially SMEs like Herts Orthodontics, are well-suited to leverage this contract to enhance their service offerings and strengthen their market presence. This procurement secures continuity in patient care and encourages ongoing quality improvements among local health providers.
Orthodontics is a dental specialty focused on aligning your bite and straightening your teeth. You might need to see an orthodontist if you have crooked, overlapped, twisted or gapped teeth. Common orthodontic treatments include traditional braces, clear aligners and removable retainers. These services are a 'referral only service' via a General Dental Practitioner.

Eligible Patients must meet the Index of Orthodontic Needs to receive NHS Orthodontic Care.

Orthodontic Contracts are commissioned via a Personal Dental Services (PDS) Agreement which is a national contractual framework.

There is no material change to the new contract being offered and therefore a direct award process C has been completed under the PSR and a robust due diligence process has been completed to ensure providers meet all the basic and key criterion.
