Summary, notice description and lot information
The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership-Procurement Services, hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust on behalf of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, has announced an award for the outsourcing of cataract procedures in North Wales. This process is part of a services category within the health industry and took place at various sites under the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board's jurisdiction. The procurement stage is complete, with the contract being awarded on 13th November 2025.
The service is due to commence on 1st December 2025 and continue until 31st March 2026, offering treatment primarily on weekends and potentially in the evenings as required. This procurement followed a limited method under a framework agreement without competition, aligned with the Health Services (Provider Selection Regime) (Wales) Regulations 2025. This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses with expertise in healthcare service provision, particularly those capable of managing and delivering medical procedures such as cataract treatments.
With an estimated contract value of £889,900, this engagement allows the awarded supplier, ID Medical Group Limited, to extend or build upon their existing operations within the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board region. Businesses that can offer reliable healthcare services, ensure continuity in patient care, and adapt to service delivery schedules would be well-suited to engage in similar procurement opportunities in the NHS sector.
This proposed contract is to cover Insourcing to Cataract Procedures across North Wales in Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board between 1st December 2025 until the end March 2026. The service is expected to be delivered regularly at Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) between the hours of 8am and 6pm during the period, but there must be ability to deliver in evenings where requested and provision of facilities allows. The service will be delivered within the geographical areas of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Health Board will book patients and manage lists, but the provider will provide medical secretary support for the activity, as well as a Nurse/HCA. This notice is an intention to award a contract based on a framework agreement without a competition under the NHS SBS Framework Agreement for Insourcing of Clinical Services reference SBS10203. The estimated value of this agreement is expected to not exceed 889,900 Services will be provided from the point of award up until 31st March 2026. To address the urgent need for 1,250 cataract treatments by the end March 2026, the proposed award to ID Mental Limited is to guarantee the continuity of services and the uninterrupted treatment of patients as they are a current contracted supplier onsite. Awarding this contract will support a seamless transition to treatment--particularly for complex cataract cases--and ensure patients receive care closer to home.
