The Derry City and Strabane District Council has completed the procurement process for the "T24-043BUS PEACEPLUS Cricket Connects," a community action programme aimed at promoting cricket across non-traditional communities. This two-year initiative focuses on integrating diverse groups, including women, girls, and those with disabilities, through street cricket and capacity-building training. The awarded contract, valued at £116,948, was signed on 8 May 2025, with the North West Cricket Union Limited selected as the supplier.
The procurement was conducted under an open procedure facilitated by the European Union's PEACEPLUS Programme. The programme operates in the Derry City and Strabane District Council area and the adjacent cross-border area, providing opportunities for community engagement and improved relations through sport. This tender presents significant business growth opportunities, particularly for organisations specialising in community engagement and sports development.
Businesses within the sports management, community services, and training sectors are well-positioned to leverage this contract to build strategic partnerships and expand their service offering. The focus on under-represented groups underscores the need for inclusive and innovative engagement strategies, positioning qualified suppliers to deliver impactful social programmes. As the project aligns with broader social cohesion goals, successful bidders may find avenues for further collaboration and funding within and beyond the region.
Derry City and Strabane District Council invite suppliers to tender for PeacePlus Cricket Connects. This tender will deliver a 2-year intergenerational programme bringing cricket to non-traditional cricket communities within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area and adjacent cross-border area. The programme will engage with diverse participants from PUL/CNR/BAME and other identities with a particular focus on those under-represented in the sport including women and girls, people with a disability and diverse ages. There will be a specific focus on street cricket, tailored capacity building training (including Good Relations) and connectivity events to link participants in with the wider cricket community. The Programme aims to utilise cricket as a vehicle for achieving good relations with sustainable outcomes through education and training modules combined with active encouragement of long-term participation and engagement in physical activity.
