Summary, notice description and lot information
The recent procurement process involves the NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), focusing on the provision of additional mandatory dental services in the region defined by industry category for dental-practice services. This process, categorised under the "services" procurement type, was initiated due to contract modifications under the Provider Selection Regime Regulations 2023. The procurement, specifically carried out to address increased units of dental activity (UDAs) towards pre-pandemic levels, targeted priority areas such as Mid and North Wiltshire.
It was completed under a limited tender method, without a prior call for competition, ensuring the process was not materially different from the original contracts. 48, respectively, to Dumbledore Dental Care Ltd and Dentalcare Westbury Limited. This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses in the dental services industry, specifically those capable of scaling operations to meet increased demand for UDAs.
Businesses well-suited to compete for such opportunities are typically SMEs equipped to handle recurrent service provisions and possess the agility to respond to modifications aligned with external factors. The procurement process, carried out through a transparent and fair method by the NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit, highlights the need for capable NHS dental providers who can deliver enhanced service commitments within defined regional priorities. As such, this tender is particularly advantageous for dental practices within the specified geographic regions looking to expand their service offerings and establish themselves as key players in delivering critical NHS services.
Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire ICB entered into a rapid commissioning process to secure additional Mandatory Dental Services activity. This process sought NHS dental providers to deliver increased activity in the form of additional, recurrent Units of Dental Activity (UDAs) as a variation to their existing contract for Mandatory Dental services, in one or more geographic priority areas. Priority areas were identified based on additional activity requirements. The priority area identified in Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire ICB was Mid and North Wiltshire. The contracts to which modifications have been applied in WB3-1 are:- Dumbledore Dental Care Ltd - 1023730000 - Additional UDAs per annum; 5978 Dentalcare Westbury Limited - 1020510000 - Additional UDAs per annum; 3993 These variations are recurrent and additional to the provider's existing General Dental Services contract, which is not time limited . A transparent, fair and proportionate process was carried out by NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit (SCW) on behalf of the Commissioners.
