Summary, notice description and lot information
NHS Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) has successfully concluded a procurement process involving the modification of existing contracts to enhance Mandatory Dental Services. This award process, dated 28 May 2025, centred on the rapid commissioning of additional Units of Dental Activity (UDAs) in Swale, reflecting a reaction to contract terminations and the NHS' current priorities to recover dental activity post-pandemic. Classified under the dental-practice services industry, the contract was modified under the Provider Selection Regime (2023), eschewing the applicability of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015.
The procurement method utilized was limited, without a prior call for competition, due to external factors necessitating swift response. This contract modification presents a significant opportunity for providers of dental services within the region to expand their operational capacity and cater to increased demand for dental care. The process favoured transparent and proportionate engagement, aligning with regulatory allowances, offering ideal prospects for small and medium enterprises like Dr Anish Patel's practice, located in Sheerness.
Businesses with established dental services in geographic priority areas like Swale stand to benefit considerably, enhancing service delivery and attracting further commissioning opportunities through demonstrated capacity to adapt and expand in response to health service requirements.
Kent and Medway ICB entered into a rapid commissioning process to secure additional Mandatory Dental Services activity. This process sought NHS dental providers to deliver increased activity in the form of additional, recurrent Units of Dental Activity (UDAs) as a variation to their existing contract for Mandatory Dental services, in one or more geographic priority areas. Priority areas were identified based on additional activity requirements. The priority area identified in Kent and Medway ICB was Swale. The contract to which modification has been applied in 5B1-5 Swale is:- Farnborough Dental Centre Ltd- 5B1-5-08 Additional UDAs per annum; 5000 These variations are recurrent and additional to the provider's existing General Dental Services contract, which is not time limited. A transparent, fair and proportionate process was carried out by NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit (SCW) on behalf of the Commissioners.
