This procurement process concerns the delivery of NHS Health Checks, a health initiative aimed at adults aged 40 to 74 in England to detect early signs of serious conditions such as stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, or dementia. Conducted by Birmingham City Council, a regional authority located at Council House, 1 Victoria Square, Birmingham, the procurement falls under the health services category (CPV code 85100000) and adheres to the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) Regulations 2023. The contracts were awarded following a limited procurement method without prior publication of a call for competition.
The awarded contracts commenced on 1st October 2024 and will run until the end of September 2025, with an option to extend for a further two years, dependent on performance and funding availability. This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses within the health services sector, especially those with expertise in providing comprehensive community and preventive health services. Large-scale medical practices such as Alpha Medical Practice, Greenfield Medical Practice, and SWB Hospitals NHS Trust Summerfield Group Practice have already been awarded contracts, highlighting the suitability for established health service providers.
With fixed fees/tariffs for the delivered services and a clear pathway for contract extension, participating in such tenders can ensure steady revenue streams and potentially long-term growth, fostering greater community health and well-being while bolstering business sustainability.
The NHS Health Check is a health check-up for adults in England aged 40 to 74 years. It's designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia. As people get older, they have a higher risk of developing one of these conditions. An NHS Health Check helps find ways to lower this risk. The check is available to those aged 40 - 74, however if an individual already has a diagnosis of any of the following, then they are not eligible for an NHS Health Check. Contracts awarded to eligible Providers to deliver NHS Health Checks following the 'Direct Award Process B' as set out in the Health Care Services [Provider Selection Regime (PSR)] Regulations 2023. "Direct Award Process B" means the process set out in regulation 8 for the award of a contract without a competition. There is a fixed fee / tariff for services delivered. The contracts commenced on 1st October 2024 up to the end of September 2025 initially with an option to extend for a further 2 years subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. This is a service to be provided by new providers.
