The NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (SSOT ICB) has completed the award stage of a contract for the provision of consultant-led, elective care services in rheumatology, gastroenterology, and endocrinology. This procurement falls under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023 and utilised the Direct Award B process, which does not require a prior call for competition. Acting on behalf of SSOT ICB, the NHS Midlands & Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit facilitated the procurement.
The contract, active from 1st July 2025 until 31st March 2027, is valued at £748,021, covering outpatient care services in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire (regions UKG23 and UKG24). This tender presents significant opportunities for large-scale healthcare providers, especially those able to deliver patient choice-driven services, as demonstrated by the successful award to Medefer Limited. Firms specialising in outpatient care and with accreditation in quality service delivery in line with ICB standards can particularly benefit.
Engaging in such specialised contracts can bolster a business's portfolio, enhance service offerings, and ensure alignment with evolving health service procurement regulations in the UK. The contract's focus on elective, consultant-led care services encourages providers with expertise in managing and delivering such services to leverage their capabilities for business growth.
