Summary, notice description and lot information
The NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board has awarded a contract for Somerset NHS Foundation Trust's acute, community, and mental health services. This directly awarded contract follows the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023 and falls under the 'services' industry category specifically for health services. Located in the UKK23 region, the contract involves several associated commissioners, including NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire ICB, among others.
The contract is valued at £821,982,802 and covers the period from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. It represents an award stage as per the most recent update on 20 November 2025. This tender offers limited opportunities for new businesses due to its direct award to the existing provider, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, which is a key partner in the Somerset Integrated Care System.
However, it underscores the significant financial commitment and scale involved in delivering comprehensive health services. Businesses that provide subcontracting, support services, or innovative healthcare solutions may find opportunities to partner or collaborate within the NHS landscape, especially given the comprehensive nature of services provided, ranging from acute care to mental health crisis intervention and community health services.
The NHS Somerset ICB as Lead Commissioner is directly awarding a contract to the existing provider Somerset NHS Foundation Trust in accordance with the criteria outlined in Regulation 6(3) and 7 Direct Award Process A of the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023. NHS Somerset ICB and Associate Commissioners (NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire ICB; NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB; NHS Devon ICB; NHS Dorset ICB) are a party to the contract. Somerset NHS Foundation Trusts provides acute, community and mental health services across Somerset. As the main NHS Provider in the Somerset Integrated Care System (ICS), Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is a key system partner within Somerset ICS and is the only partner providing acute services across all ages of patients within the ICS footprint, including provision of Levels 1 and 2 urgent and emergency services and associated emergency inpatient services, together with other essential secondary care services such as surgical and medical specialties (elective and non-elective), Diagnostic, screening and/or Pathology services, and Cancer and/or Radiotherapy Services. Within the core contract, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust provides a wide range of community-based health services to the people of Somerset. It also provides both adult and children's mental health crisis services, among others, within the core contract. Some of the community mental health services provided are interdependent with other services provided by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust due to the need for cross-specialty and cross-service working. The amount payable to the provider under the contract is estimated at PS821,982,802: Commissioner Contract Value (PS) NHS Somerset ICB PS782,240,000 NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire ICB PS1,554,999 NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB PS2,531,671 NHS Devon ICB PS11,978,951 NHS Dorset ICB PS23,677,181 Total - PS821,982,802 The contract term is 1 year commenced 01 April 2025 to 31 March 2026.
