Summary, notice description and lot information
The "Marie Curie-overnight sitting service" contract, initiated by the NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board, focuses on providing health services to cancer and palliative care patients in East and North Hertfordshire. The procurement process followed the Provider Selection Regime under the Health Care Services Regulations 2023. The contract, awarded using direct award process C, was formalised on 30th April 2025.
It will start from 1st April 2025 for one year, with a possible one-year extension, ensuring continuity of care. The annual contract value is £133,996, with a total potential value of £267,992 if extended. The decision was confirmed by the ICB Enhanced Financial Scrutiny Panel with no conflicts of interest, providing services without change to the existing provision in the region.
This tender presents opportunities primarily for large-scale health service providers like Marie Curie who are already well-entrenched in the provision of palliative care services and can deliver continuity of service quality. Companies with expertise in home health services, particularly those capable of managing overnight care, stand to enhance their service portfolios and develop partnerships with regional health authorities. Although the contract uses a direct award under specific regime regulations, it outlines a key provision that aligns with increasing local population demands, potentially offering growth in service scope and community impact.
The provider delivers an overnight sitting service in the East and North Herfordshire region.
HWE ICB intend to award a contract to the existing provider following Direct Award Process C.
The contract will be a one year plus an optional one year extension. The value of the contract is PS133,996 for 2025-26 and if the contract extension is enacted the value will also be PS133,996 for 2026-27. These values may be subject to change as detailed in section VI.3.
