Summary, notice description and lot information
The procurement process for a Community Endoscopy Service, led by NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board, has moved through various stages with a recent tender update on 18th December 2025, indicating the abandonment of the provider selection process previously planned. Despite this decision, an active contract for the same service was signed on 23rd September 2025 with a significant total value of £14,604,075, indicating a commitment to delivering health services in Ipswich and the wider East Suffolk locality. The procurement, classified under health services, was conducted through an open procedure and included an evaluation and award period that began on 18th July 2025.
The initiative aimed to establish a service that could be expanded over three years, with a possibility for a two-year extension, offering Oesophago-gastro duodenoscopy, trans nasal endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy services to patients referred by GPs. However, a notice from May 2025 initiated a competitive process, setting 18th July 2025 as the deadline for submission of bids. The opportunities for business growth presented by this tender are significant, particularly for those in the healthcare services sector capable of offering specialised diagnostics and patient-focused care.
Businesses that can demonstrate the ability to integrate with primary and acute care providers and possess technical capabilities compatible with existing healthcare systems, such as endoscopy software compatibility, are well-positioned to compete. The procurement invites large-scale providers able to manage community-based health delivery under varying conditions and potentially expanding services. Additionally, the establishment of a network that facilitates insights into diet, lifestyle, and preventive measures would be advantageous, as would partnerships with public health services and voluntary organisations.
This contract not only represents a substantial financial opportunity but also a chance to engage actively with local healthcare strategies aiming for improved diagnosis, preventive measures, and patient autonomy in managing health outcomes.
The aim of this procurement is to establish a Community Endoscopy Service within the NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB) locality. The contract will be activity-based and will have an indicative activity plan and agreed tariffs. The anticipated aggregate contract value is PS14,604,075. across the potential 5 years, but this is an indicative figure based on indicative activity.
