Royal Stoke University Hospital has awarded a contract for a "TB Dispensing Service" to Medi-Zen Healthcare Services Ltd on 9th April 2025. The project, classified under pharmacy services (CPV code 85149000), involves the provision of outpatient prescription dispensing services for tuberculosis (TB) patients at the Cobridge Community Health Centre, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. This contract falls within the services industry category and was granted without competition due to a singular expression of interest following a prior information notice (PIN).
00pm. This tender offers significant opportunities for growth, particularly for businesses within the healthcare services sector, including small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) with experience in pharmaceutical dispensing. The contract ensures a steady flow of demand with an estimated 135,000 prescriptions worth £14 million in the first year.
Suppliers located within Stoke-on-Trent or those capable of establishing a proximate distribution point will benefit most from this opportunity, aligning with the Trust’s requirement for close-proximity service provision. This contract highlights potential for further collaboration with the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, providing a pathway to enhance business relationships within the public healthcare domain.
The Trust are exploring the market to find a supplier to dispense outpatient prescriptions (the Service) for the UHNM TB Service held at the Cobridge Community Health Centre, Church Terrace, Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire, ST6 2JN and to ensure that the service is conducted in a consistent, professional and accurate manner. The service will consist of dispensing medicines for TB against outpatient prescriptions.
The operational times for the TB Service is between Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm, there is an expectation that the Pharmacy will operate up to 6.00pm.
The year 1 2025/26 estimated annual volume of prescriptions to be dispensed and drug expenditure is 135,000 items (PS14 million drug expenditure)
The Service is required to be within walking distance of the Cobridge Community Health Centre, i.e. within 0.5 miles, as in practical terms the Trust's staff must have the ability to walk between the Health Centre and Pharmacy many times a day to meet spontaneous and unexpected drug dispensing need. It is not practical or sustainable to require Staff to use cars for pharmacy trips. This is the same principle as Hospital based Pharmacy services which have a requirement to have services within walking distances. Additional information: This notice is for an award without competition as a result of a single expression of interest subsequent to the PIN, negating the opportunity to run a competitive process.
