Summary, notice description and lot information
The NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care Board has formally awarded a contract for the provision of Primary Care Vasectomy Services, with the procurement process aligned to the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023. This direct award, valued at £600,000, falls under the "surgical specialist services" category, identified by CPV code 85121300. Situated in the County of Shropshire, the service will be delivered by GP practices with current contracts, namely Marysville Medical Practice, Shifnal and Priorslee Medical Practice, and Stirchley Medical Practice.
The procurement stage detailed in this notice is the award, with the contract covering a 36-month period starting from 1 April 2025 and ending on 31 March 2028. Direct Award C was used, bypassing the usual competitive requirements under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015. This tender provides considerable opportunities for GP practices and similar primary care providers seeking to expand their service offerings or fortify existing ones.
Practices equipped to deliver surgical specialist services, particularly those experienced with vasectomy procedures, will find this contract attractive due to its focus on continuity of existing service provision. By participating, such businesses can enhance their credentials within the healthcare landscape of Shropshire. The directive allows for terms that cater to practices capable of handling both general and local anaesthetic requirements, thus offering scope for expansion and reputation enhancement in service delivery.
Interested businesses should demonstrate not only the ability to meet established standards but also capacity for sustaining service quality throughout the contract duration as prioritised in the award criteria.
This Intention to Award Notice is issued in accordance with the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023. Vasectomy services across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin are provided within two settings: Primary Care and Acute. This award covers the Primary Care contracts only, the provision of Primary Care Vasectomy Services. NHS Shropshire Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care Board (NHS STW) currently holds contracts with the following GP Practices for this service and anticipates no change to the current service provision: - Marysville Medical Practice - Shifnal and Priorslee Medical Practice - Stirchley Medical Practice This contracts covers the full vasectomy pathway including: - Pre-counselling - Procedure - Post-counselling and sample test For the procedure there are two options locally: - General surgery where general anaesthetic is necessary or requested, (patients who require a general anaesthetic are referred to secondary care), - Procedure under local anaesthetic (undertaken in primary care). NHS STW is satisfied that the requirements for the provision of health care services are not changing considerably, i.e., they don't meet the considerable change threshold as set out in Regulation 6(10). The intention is to award a contract to: - Marysville Medical Practice - Shifnal and Priorslee Medical Practice - Stirchley Medical Practice The existing providers, via the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023, Regulation 9, Direct Award C. The contract period shall be for a period 36-months from 1st April 2025 to 31st March 2028. The estimated budget value is PS600,000.00, which will be split between the 3 providers based on volume of procedures.
